County students to compete in UIL regional academic meets

Thirty-six Scurry County high school students will compete at next week’s University Interscholastic League regional academic meets.
The top two finishers in the regional meets will qualify for the state meet, which will be held May 2-4. 
The state speech competition is set for May 29-30.
Fourteen Snyder High School students will compete in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday.
They are Bergandi Alvarado (prose interpretation), Caitlyn Crane (headline writing and news writing), Randy Hernandez (copy editing and editorial writing), Brody Jasso (poetry interpretation) Evelyn Kerr (computer science), Rena Morrell (spelling and vocabulary), Carolyn Stelutti (feature writing and copy editing), Haruki Sugimoto (number sense and mathematics), Kaleb Alarcon (science), Georgiana Crist (copy editing and news writing), Rutik Desai (computer science and computer applications), Olivia Haley (prose interpretation), Spence Jones (computer science), Madison Mitchell (prose interpretation),  and Matthew Porter (computer science).
The Class 1A meet will feature 22 county students — 17 from Ira and five from Hermleigh. The regional meet will be held Friday and Saturday in San Angelo.
Ira students who qualified for the regional meet were Lasey Johnson (feature writing and news writing), Brilynn Loving (prose), Grace Highfield (science), Brenna Hartman (spelling and vocabulary), Asher Fowlkes (accounting), Brayden White (calculator applications), Dylan Billingsley (computer science), Jessica Heiskell (mathematics, accounting and calculator), Breauna Hall (accounting), Kylie Miller (accounting), Camren Ochoa (calculator), Holden Rios (computer science), Lexton Hernandez (computer science), Ike Weaver (computer science), Ben Fonville (copy editing and headline writing), Esmeralda Torres (informative speaking) and Molly Jamison (ready writing).
Hermleigh qualifiers were Stormi Cobb (informative speaking and poetry interpretation) and Grace Rister (prose interpretation, chemistry and science), Sadie Robertson (science), Ryleigh Benitez (poetry interpretation) and Brianna Rawls (persuasive speaking and prose interpretation).
