Crews to spray for mosquitos

No one has been complaining about the amount of rain Scurry County has received this month, but it has resulted in a troubling equation: Rain equals standing water which equals breeding grounds for mosquitos.
In an effort to forestall an outbreak of mosquitos, City of Snyder crews will be getting a head start on their summer spraying program next week.
City Public Works Director Eli Torres said that, weather permitting, crews will spray west of College Ave. on Monday or Tuesday, followed by the eastern side of the town the next day.
Crews will spray in Hermleigh, Ira and Fluvanna the following day, Torres said.
Of course, with rain in the forecast for the early part of next week, Torres said that schedule is subject to change.
He said crews have been treating standing water pools with larvicide, but rains the past few days have limited the effectiveness of that program.
“Anytime it rains, you get running water and that just washes the larvicide away,” he said.
