Though summer is here and it gives children a chance to relax, it’s important for them to maintain an active lifestyle.
To promote healthy living, the CrossFit Snyder gym is offering a CrossFit Kids class this summer.
“We’re trying to get kids active and teach them the proper way to do movements,” CrossFit Snyder owner Kendall Riggan said.
At the beginning of the class, participants have a warm-up, which is followed by learning a skill. Participants then do the workout of the day and end the class with a game. Riggan said that conducting the class in this way is good for getting kids active while allowing them to have fun.
“We have the class during our 8:30 boot camp class for adults, so parents can also workout while their kids work out,” Riggan said.
The CrossFit Kids class is designed for children ages five through 11 and meets from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Children ages 12 and older are welcome to attend the bootcamp class with a parent present.
Riggan said that the CrossFit Kids class is currently full, but a waiting list is available for those who apply online at www.crossfitsnyder.com.
The CrossFit Kids class is the first summer-long children’s CrossFit program at CrossFit Snyder, though the gym has offered other children’s programs before.
CrossFit Snyder held a summer camp for children last summer and offered CrossFit classes to Snyder ISD Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) students this past school year.
Riggan said that CrossFit Snyder hopes to be able to provide an after-school CrossFit class for students during the 2018-19 school year.
