Strawn ISD Superintendent Brent Dawson was named the lone finalist for the Hermleigh ISD superintendent post.
The Hermleigh board of trustees, on Monday, unanimously named Dawson the lone finalist following a 12-minute closed session. Dawson was part of the closed session via telephone.
“I couldn’t be more excited. I am looking forward to working with the board and the Hermleigh community,” Dawson said. “I want to help accomplish the goals set by the board.”
Dawson said the interview process went well and that he was impressed by the board.
“They seem easy to work with and they represent the school and community well,” he said. “I got a good vibe from the little time I spent in Hermleigh.”
Dawson, who graduated from Panther Creek High School, did not give a timeframe on when he would begin work, but the Hermleigh board must wait the state-mandated 21 days to finalize the contract. The board will meet tonight to begin the contract review.
Board chairman Roy Gill said Dawson stood out among a qualified field.
“He has that small-school mentality. That is all he has ever been around,” Gill said. “We had a lot of good candidates. You could have taken the top four and picked them out of a hat. That is how good they were. He stood out just a little bit more.”
Dawson will replace Ronnie Roemisch, who will retire at the end of his contract on June 30.
