The deadline for organizations to apply for Operation Round Up funds is a little more than a month away.
Operation Round Up, which is administered by volunteers on the Big Country Electric Cooperative trust board of directors, allows Big Country and its members to partner together to provide financial assistance to organizations in the company’s service area, which includes Scurry Country.
“This program is supported by co-op members whose electric bills are ‘rounded up’ to the nearest dollar,” said Sarah McLen, Big Country’s key accounts executive. “The ‘round up’ amount goes into the Operation Round Up fund for distribution to individuals and organizations with demonstrated financial need in the counties we serve. Every penny stays right here at home.”
McLen said the next application deadline is Aug. 29. The Big Country trust board of directors will review the applications the week of Sept. 10.
Typically, funds are awarded to charitable organizations.
“But first and foremost, they will consider applications based on need and the level of urgency,” McLen said.
Food needs and food banks, shelter, medical bills and health needs, rescue organizations, educational projects, child care programs and other special needs or charitable programs are among the recipients of Operation Round Up funds, McLen said.
