Despite rain, county remains in drought condition

For the third straight week, the western portion of Scurry County is listed in an extreme drought stage.
Today’s U.S. Drought Monitor Map showed the central portion of the county, including Snyder, in the severe drought stage and the eastern portion in the moderate stage.
The western half of Scurry County has been in an extreme drought stage for three straight weeks. Less than 1 percent of the state is listed in the extreme drought stage this week. Most of Borden County is also listed in the extreme drought stage.
Snyder has received 1.27 inches of rain this month, including 0.17 of an inch this week. 
No rain is currently in the seven-day forecast.
Over the last 96 hours, several West Texas Mesonet reporting stations reported rainfall, including 0.23 of an inch at Western Texas College and the SnTx Industrial Park. Fluvanna recored 0.65 of an inch while Gail had 0.69 of an inch.
Lake Alan Henry’s reporting station received 1.18 inches of rain over the past 96 hours. The lake has risen nearly 2 percent in the last week.
For the year, Snyder has received 14.02 inches of rain, which is nearly one inch more than this time last year (13.23 inches).
