Drug charges against a Colorado man were dropped after he died.

Richard Bryan Rubio, of Aurora, Colo., had faced a charge of possession of a controlled substance after he was found in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine in July 2016.

A charge of aggravated assault was dropped after Amos Ramon Garcia entered a guilty plea to a felony domestic violence charge.

Garcia, 20, of Snyder, was convicted for third-degree felony continuous violence against the family. In addition to the dropped charge, in exchange for his plea Garcia was given a five-year probated sentence and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $353 in court costs and to participate in the TAIP program.

Garcia hit and injured a member of his family in the face twice in June 2017.

According to the case file, he struck the victim once with a closed fist and another time with his hand.

In one of those incidents, he exhibited a knife during the assault, leading to the domestic violence charge that was dismissed.

Pablo Benitez Jr. was given a four-year probated, deferred adjudication, sentence, after he entered a guilty plea to a third-degree felony charge of assault, family violence.

In addition to the sentence, Benitez was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $353 in court costs, as well as participate in the TAIP program.

In February, Benitez struck a family member in the head with his hand. According to his file, he was previously convicted of an offense against a family member in August 2015 in Scurry County.
