The seven-day early voting period for Saturday’s municipal election ended Tuesday with 7.97 percent of the eligible voters casting ballots and the second highest turnout since 2011.

City officials reported that 493 people voted early. According to the County Clerk’s office, 6,174 people are eligible to vote in Saturday’s election.

The 493 early votes was second only to 2015’s 540 votes cast during the early voting period.

Saturday’s election includes the race for mayor and two at-large Snyder City Council seats.

Mayoral candidates on the ballot are Tony Wofford, John Gayle, Stephanie Ducheneaux and George Jamison.

The at-large city council candidates are Maria Robinson, Luann Burleson, Ben Martin and Frank Toland.

The top two at-large council candidates will earn a seat on the council.

To be elected mayor, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes (50 percent plus one vote).

If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff election between the top two candidates will be held June 17, city officials said.

On Saturday, voting at College on the Square will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Results of Saturday’s election will be posted on the Snyder Daily News Facebook page and website after they are verified by city officials.
