Every October, families make their way to Snyder’s downtown square for White Buffalo Days.

The fun will start Saturday morning with art at College on the Square at 10 a.m. Children will create buffalo-themed versions of the popular character Flat Stanley, who travels the world.

They will decorate a buffalo, called Buff Stanley, with colorful strips of paper. Upon completing their decoration, students will visit vendors and activity coordinators on the square, taking a picture with them and their Buff Stanley.

Photos will be posted on social media and the most popular post will receive a children’s painting party for 10 with artist Nathalie Kelley.

At noon, pedal car races will be held at the Snyder Chamber of Commerce office for children ages six to 15. Racers are encouraged to arrive early to register.

A children’s inflatable obstacle course will also be set up on the square.

For families, several activities and attractions are available.

Southwest Dairy Farms will provide mobile dairy demonstrations Saturday at the intersection of 26th Street and Ave. R. They will bring a cow to demonstrate the steps milk follows from the cow to the carton. Demonstrations will be held at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

United Supermarket will host a pumpkin patch in the courthouse’s northeast parking lot. It will be open Friday from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The pumpkin patch will include activities, such as pumpkin painting, a bean bag toss and a spot to take pictures. Pumpkins will also be for sale.

Historic Scurry County, Inc., will host a grand opening for the Snyder Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center at 10 a.m. Saturday. They will sell T-shirts, iced buffalo cookies, buffalo chip cookies and bottled water.

Volunteers will also provide games, such as a bucket coin toss, a bean bag toss, sidewalk chalk, stilts and candy corn pictures.

A quilt show will be held in the old West Texas State Bank building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Locally made quilts will be on display, and a country store will sell homemade items and craft ideas.

Families may also attend the Snyder Farmer’s Market beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The market will be located on the north courthouse lawn.

For adults, the Scurry County Museum will host Oktoberfest at the 1818 Arthouse. There will be six craft beers for tasting, art, live music and souvenir glasses.

The event will run from 6-10 p.m. Friday and will open at noon Saturday while supplies last. Local musicians Lori Sealy and Kurt Melle will perform Saturday from 2-4 p.m. Oktoberfest tickets are $20 for one day or $30 for both days.

Q&L Auctioneering will host a tailgate auction in the First Baptist Church parking lot Saturday. The auction preview will begin at 9 a.m., and items will be auctioned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
