Filing for local elections begins Jan. 20

Four local taxing entities may hold elections on May 7.
Filing for the City of Snyder, Snyder ISD, Scurry County Hospital District and Western Texas College governing bodies will begin Jan. 20 and continue through Feb. 19.
The four individual district seats on the Snyder City Council may be on the ballot. District 1 is currently represented by Vernon Clay and Steve Rich represents District 2. Steve Highfield is the District 3 representative on the council and Thomas Strayhorn represents District 4.
Filing will be held at Snyder City Hall.
The two at-large seats on the Snyder ISD board of trustees may be on the ballot. The current at-large board members are Jim Drake and Ron Hester. Filing will be held at the school district’s administration office.
The hospital district may have three seats on the ballot in 2016. Loretta McCravey’s Pct 2 and Jim Bob Cave’s Pct. 3 seats may be on the ballot, as well as Morris Light’s at-large seat. Filing will be held in the administration wing of Cogdell Memorial Hospital.
The Western Texas College board of trustees Place 3 seat held by Tim Riggan and Place 4 seat held by Dr. Jay Kidd may be on the ballot. Filing will be held in the president’s office located in the Palmer Hall boardroom.
Local residents will have until April 7 to register to vote for the election and early voting will be held April 25 through May 3.
