Only two people have filed to run in the May 2 local elections so far.
Filing opened Wednesday for Snyder City Council, Snyder ISD school board, Scurry County Junior College District (Western Texas College) board of trustees and Scurry County Hospital District (Cogdell Memorial Hospital) governing board. As of the end of the day Friday, only the incumbents in the WTC race — Drew Bullard and Mike McWilliams — had filed to run.
The two WTC board members’ at-large seats are up for re-election in the race, as are several at the other three entities.
Scurry County, Ira ISD and Hermleigh ISD will hold their next elections in November.
For the May elections, candidate filing runs through Feb. 14, and should be done at the administrative headquarters of the entity in questions: Snyder City Hall for a city council position, the Snyder ISD administration office for its board of trustees, the WTC administration building for its board of directors and at Cogdell Memorial Hospital for its board of trustees.
The city council’s four single-member district seats are up for election. Those seats are currently held by Vernon Clay, District 1; Steve Rich, District 2; Steve Highfield, District 3; and Thomas Strayhorn, District 4.
The Snyder school district has three places up for election. Those seats are currently held by Ronnie Anderson, District 1; Carrie Richardson, District 4; and Doug Neff, District 5.
Bullard’s and McWilliams’ seats are the only positions up for election in the Scurry County Junior College District. Both are at-large positions.
The Scurry County Hospital District currently has three seats up for election, those currently held by Loretta McCravey, District 2; Benny Marricle, District 4; and Andrea Martini in an at-large seat.
Early voting for the May 2 election will be April 20-24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on April 27 and 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting and election day voting will be held at College on the Square, located at 1801 26th Street.
