If you want to paint, talent is not a necessity at College on the Square’s Thursday watercolor class
You don’t have to be an accomplished artist to participate in the Thursday Morning Watercolor class at Western Texas College’s College on the Square.
Truth be told, you really don’t have to be an artist.
All you need is enthusiasm, time and a little bit of cash and instructor Nathalie Kelley will be more than happy to help you find your artistic voice.
“A lot of my students have never painted before,” Kelley said. “But I feel like I can almost always help them release their talent.”
The class, which is for adults who are either beginning or intermediate artists, is held Thursdays at 9 a.m. at College on the Square. The cost is $20 per class.
Kelley promises plenty of individual attention, even if the classroom is full.
“This class is almost like private lessons, but in a group setting,” she said. “They bring their own photos or ideas to work on, and I help them look at those photos and see what’s important — that helps with composition. Then, I help them with their techniques.”
The key, Kelley said, is in helping the students find the style of painting that best suits them.
“We let them put their own spin on it,” she said. “I don’t teach them to paint like I paint. I help them find their own artistic voice.”
All art materials are provided — even ideas.
“If they don’t have an idea of what they want to paint, we’ll come up with something,” Kelley said.
