Snyder’s 25th annual Fish-A-Thon, which benefits the Boy Scouts of America Buffalo Trail Council, has been postponed indefinitely due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Scurry County.

Event Chairman James Bond said the he had been unable to stock Towle Park Pond with fish for the event.

“I usually work on it from January to the day of the event,” he said. “It takes a lot of time, and we have to have the money to stock the fish also. We spend about $3,000 a year to stock that pond.”

Normally, donations from local businesses support the event, but Bond said he didn’t want to ask for donations in the midst of a difficult time.

Bond said that he hopes to be able to reschedule the Fish-A-Thon before the year is out.
