Five indicted on felony charges

Five people were indicted by the 132nd Judicial District Court Grand Jury recently, each on a single felony charge.

Alfredo Luis Hernandez, 33, of Snyder was indicted on a charge of attempted arson, a second-degree felony. According to the indictment, on Oct. 5, 2019, Hernandez applied a liquid flammable accelerant to the front door of a home, intending to set the home on fire. The indictment goes on to say that while the offense constituted “…more than mere preparation,” it failed to have the desired effect. 

Bond was set at $15,000.

Mike Bernal, 45, of Snyder was indicted on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony. The indictment states that, on June 22, 2019, Bernal was discovered to be in possession of between one and four grams of methamphetamine. Bernal had already been convicted twice for felony crimes according to the indictment, on March 18, 2010, in Parker County, and on Sept. 24, 2013, in Andrews County, both for driving while intoxicated. 

Bond was set at $5,000.

Winona Rochelle Jackson, 36, of Abilene was indicted on a charge of assault of a public servant, a third-degree felony. According to the indictment on Feb. 21, 2020 Jackson kicked Scurry County jailer Nicole Kenner, intentionally, knowingly or recklessly caused bodily injury to her. The indictment goes on to say that Kenner was discharging an official duty at the time of the kick, namely attempting to restrain Jackson. 

Bond was set at $5,000.

Josephine Mary Aguilar, 44, of Snyder was indicted on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony. According to the indictment, on Oct. 27, 2019, Aguilar was discovered to be in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine. 

Bond was set at $5,000.

Jessica Renee Medrano, 22, of Snyder was indicted on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony. According to the indictment, on Sept. 19, 2018, Medrano was discovered to be in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine. Bond was set at $5,000.
