A former Snyder ISD assistant physical education teacher has pleaded guilty to a charge of transfer of obscene material to a minor.

According to media reports, Xavier Cenobio Gutierrez, 19, pleaded guilty in a Lubbock Federal Court Tuesday to providing nude images to, and requesting them from, a 12-year-old female student.

A sentencing date for Gutierrez has not yet been set. His sentence could include a fine or prison sentence up to 10 years, or both.

Snyder ISD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland provided the following statement Wednesday afternoon:

“This afternoon, Snyder ISD was notified that a former Snyder ISD employee pleaded guilty to the charge of transfer of obscene material to a minor. Earlier this year, Snyder ISD was notified of a complaint against this Snyder Junior High School teacher’s aide. The employee in question was immediately put on leave, pending an investigation. Snyder Police Department assumed responsibility for the investigation.

“Snyder ISD takes every allegation of inappropriate communication or conduct with students or minors extremely seriously. All allegations are immediately investigated and appropriately addressed.

“We take that very seriously. Our local law enforcement and city police did a great job investigation and taking care of it. I know they’re committed to protecting our community.”
