The Snyder Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fourth of July celebration will include both quiet prayer and the boom of fireworks.
Organizers promise food, fun and, of course, fireworks during the annual celebration, which will be held Wednesday and Thursday in Towle Park.
Wednesday’s activities will begin when vendors open at 4 p.m., followed by the Pride of Texas carnival opening at 5 p.m.
Two live musical acts are scheduled for Wednesday — Santa Fe at 7 p.m. and Mitchell Ford and the Volunteers at 9 p.m.
A six-person co-ed volleyball tournament will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the volleyball courts. The entry fee is $100 per team, with all proceeds benefitting Snyder High School volleyball teams. Each team is allowed to have eight members. Play will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue at 11 a.m. Thursday. Call 575-6543 or 575-1634 to register.
On Thursday, events will begin with the annual prayer breakfast hosted by the Snyder Lions Club at 7 a.m. in the Towle Park barn.
Dr. Tommy Culwell, who spent 20 years as Colonial Hill Baptist Church’s minister, will be the guest speaker. Culwell, a graduate of Anson High School, retired as Colonial Hill’s pastor in 2017 to accept a position as coordinator of ministry education for the Hendrick Hospital Chaplaincy program in Abilene.
At 9 a.m., vendor booths will open to the public and a flag raising ceremony will be held in front of the armory.
The annual Fourth of July parade will wind its way through the park beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will start at Moffett Field and head southeast down Towle Park Road North. The parade will pass the skate park, the pool and splash pad and will follow the loop in front of the playground equipment near the former Prairie Dog Town. From there it will turn on to Towle Park Road, passing the pavilion and armory before ending at the youth baseball fields.
A portion of Houston Ave. will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. until the end of  the parade.
A washer pitching and cornhole tournament will be held west of the Towle Park pond. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday and the cost is $15 per person. The washer pitching tournament will begin at noon and the cornhole tournament will follow. To register, call Manny Rios at 436-9908.
Specialty acts, such as the Stars R Us cheerleading and tumbling teams and the Studio 92 Dance Company will perform beginning at 11:30 a.m. Two live music acts, Jay Statham and the Tokies and Mitchell Ford and the Volunteers, will perform starting at 12:30 p.m. The Tejano band J.R. Gomez and the Conjunto Bandits, will take the stage at 4:30 p.m.
The carnival will open for its final night at 5 p.m.
Two other bands, 12-Ounce Symphony and A Touch of Soul, will perform beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Arts and crafts booths, which will be located in the armory, will close at 7 p.m. and the remaining booths will shut down at 8 p.m.
The celebration will conclude with the annual fireworks display at dusk.
