Hall of Honor to welcome three Snyder graduates on Friday

David Holt, Kenneth “Mickey” McGrew and Mike McWilliams will enter the Snyder Athletic Hall of Honor during a ceremony at Martha Ann Woman’s Club on Friday.

Gary Bougher, who worked in maintenance for the Snyder athletic department before retiring, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bougher worked for Western Texas College before joining the Snyder staff.

Activities will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the meal and the ceremony is scheduled to start at noon.

Holt played on Snyder’s 1965 state baseball tournament team that lost in the semifinals to Nolan Ryan and Alvin High School. He received the Carl Herod most valuable player award in 1966 and signed to play football at TCU. 

Holt was the football team captain in 1965 and was named to the all-district and all-state third team his senior year.

McGrew, a 1959 Snyder High School graduate, was named to the all-district, all-state, all-area and all-regional football teams. He was an all-American football player in 1959. 

In track, McGrew threw the shot put and was named to the all-district, all-regional and all-state teams. He played football at Texas A&M, San Angelo College and Texas A&I.

McWilliams earned letters in football, basketball, tennis, baseball and track and field. 

In basketball, McWilliams played point guard and earned honorable mention all-district honors. He started in center field and was named to the all-district baseball first team in 1986. In tennis, McWilliams played doubles with Trey McWilliams and Michael Risenhoover. He ran the hurdles and competed in the high jump for the track team.
