Marsha Haney presented Women of the Bible, a one-woman performance highlighting four key female figures from the Bible, for more than 150 women at the East Side Church of Christ’s Women’s Encounter Day Saturday.
The theme was “Vessels of Honor” and each of the four people Haney portrayed exemplified what it meant to be a vessel for God.
Haney has been doing her one-person performance for more than 15 years, but Saturday was the first time she performed in Snyder.
Haney portrayed Noah’s wife, the wife of the innkeeper at Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the Mother of God.
She said the goal is to try to bring the women to life as much as possible.
“I’m trying to make them real people, so we can relate to them because they were like us in many ways,” Haney said. “I think sometimes when we read the Bible, we think of them as characters. But they were real people. They’re people we can look at as examples of what it means to be a vessel of honor.”
The event also featured short videos, live music, prayer and fellowship. But the main focus was the performance by Haney.
Haney said it is sometimes challenging to continue to do the same show for years, but said it is always exciting to make an impact on others. She said she has considered retiring the Women of the Bible show, but said she hopes to continue doing it as long as possible.
“I’m just going to keep doing it as long as God gives me the strength to stand and allows me to remember what it is I want to say,” Haney said.
