There’s a strong chance that much-needed rain will be falling on Scurry County tonight, but it might bring with it hazardous weather.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight and early Saturday for this area, according to a hazardous weather bulletin issued by the agency today.
In addition to rain, hail, flooding, high winds and even a tornado are possible, NWS forecasters stated.
“Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and tonight, especially across the Permian Basin,” the NWS bulletin stated. “Some of the storms will be strong to severe with large hail and damaging winds possible. An isolated tornado can also not be ruled out. Locally heavy rainfall with localized flooding will be possible.”
On Saturday, the chance for isolated showers drops to 10 percent, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 80s forecast for the remainder of the weekend.
