The possibility of heavy rain for Snyder and Scurry County remains in the forecast for the next few days.

Snyder officially received a hundredth of an inch of precipitation Wednesday, according to data from the National Weather Service (NWS), but more rain is forecast for today and the weekend.

According to the Texas Tech University West Texas Mesonet website, Western Texas College received 0.41 of an inch of rain through 10:30 a.m. today while the SnTx Industrial Park received 0.08 of an inch.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for today for parts of West Texas, including Scurry County.

“Widespread thunderstorms are expected again across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico through tonight,” the NWS bulletin stated. “Heavy rainfall resulting in localized flash flooding will be the main hazard, although isolated severe storms with large hail and damaging winds cannot be ruled out.”

The NWS stated thunderstorms, some heavy, are possible for the area through Wednesday.

The chance for storms in Snyder is listed at 40 to 50 percent through Sunday.

A weather advisory was issued for northeast Scurry County Wednesday night as a storm system moved through the county.

No damage was reported.
