The Hermleigh ISD board of trustees approved revisions to the local teacher evaluation system at Tuesday’s meeting.
The new policy states that each teacher must be appraised annually unless he or she meets the proper criteria. To be eligible for a less frequent appraisal, an employee must be employed on an educator term contract, hold certification from the State Board of Educator Certification, be assigned in his or her certification area, have served that assignment for at least three years, have served at the current campus for at least one year and have been supervised by the current principal for at least one year.
The motion to approve the revisions passed 5-1, with Roy Gill opposed.
In the principal’s report, Eddie Richardson told the board enrollment was at 243 students, two more than this time a year ago.
In the superintendent’s report, Brent Dawson said the school district brought in $371,000 in maintenance and operations taxes and spent $289,000 in the month of September. He said the interest and sinking (I&S) fund stayed the same but said the district will have to keep an eye on it going forward.
“It’s hard to predict anything with property values declining,” Dawson said. “That’s where you risk possibly having to raise I&S rates.”
The board recognized Issac Ruacho as the elementary student of the first six weeks and Ciera Digby as the secondary student of the first six weeks.
Dawson thanked Tommy Berry for his time on the board as Berry’s term is ending.
Dawson advised that the next board meeting is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 15, because the second Tuesday of the month will be election night, including the Hermleigh board election.
The board met in closed session for 16 minutes to discuss personnel. No action was taken.
