The Scurry County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating threatening statements allegedly made by a Hermleigh ISD student.

Sheriff Trey Wilson said deputies were called to Hermleigh’s campus shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday regarding a student making threats. When they arrived, deputies contacted the juvenile and several witnesses. Following those discussions, the juvenile was brought to the sheriff’s office for further investigation.

“There wasn’t anything specific in his threats. They were just very generic,” Wilson said. “He wasn’t threatening anybody in particular.”

No weapons were involved or located at the school during the deputies’ investigation, Wilson said.

The juvenile, who was not identified, was later released to his parents.

The Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division also responded and is assisting in the investigation, Wilson said.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to 132nd Judicial District Attorney Ben Smith for consideration of criminal charges.
