Ira High School’s Sabrina Highfield will be one six students competing in Monday’s Big Country Electric Cooperative’s Government in Action Youth Tour speech contest.
Highfield will be joined at the contest by Matthew Ramirez, Elle-Kaye Terry and Autumn Cleveland, all of Roby, Mollie Hagler of Anson and Bryanna Birdsong of Stamford. The contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the cooperative’s Roby office. Each student will give a 10-minute speech on the topic “How would your life change if electricity no longer existed?”
The top three finishers will represent the cooperative on the Youth Tour, which is a 10-day, all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in June. An alternate will be chosen in case one of the top three is unable to attend. Each winner and runner-up will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
The Youth Tour will allow students to tour the nation’s capitol and visit with elected officials.
