Snyder is moving forward with Fourth of July celebrations. Not only with there be activities in Towle Park on Independence Day, the Downtown Merchants Association and Lions Club have planned events for Friday as well.

Several downtown shops will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Participating shops include Bucks & Bows, MacLins, The Blessed Nest, The Ruffled Rooster, Friendly Flowers, Sideline Nutrition and the J316 Coffee Shop. Each will have its own discounts and offers. There will also be food trucks and pop-up shops. Mrs. Kathy’s Apple of my Pie will extend its hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Snyder Lions Club will hold an outdoor movie night at The Coliseum, showing The Sandlot on an outdoor screen at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per car and may be purchased at The Auto Clinic, Snyder Chamber of Commerce, Texas Hometown Real Estate Company, Tindol Insurance Agency or from a Snyder Lions Club member. Tickets will also be available at the gates.

Events begin Saturday in Towle Park at 7 a.m. with the Freedom Run hosted by CrossFit Snyder and Lift Fitness & Nutrition. There will be several different distances — a 10K beginning at 7 a.m., a one-mile fun run at 7:15 a.m., and a 5K at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $30. All races will be chip-timed, and awards will be given for the fastest three men and women in each age group and the fastest male and female overall of each race.

Packet pickup will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at CrossFit Snyder. Register online at bit.ly/CFS5k20.

Calvary Baptist Church will host a Community Prayer Service at the Towle Park pavilion at 8 a.m. Prayer leaders will include Pastor Ben Moore of the First Baptist Church of Ira, Pastor Ben Reid of the First Baptist Church of Snyder and Pastor Matt Lowry of Calvary Baptist Church.

At 9 a.m. the lineup for the parade will begin in the Moffett Field parking lot. No registration is required to participate in the parade.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., taking its traditional route through Towle Park.

Chamber of Commerce and City of Snyder staff encourage community members to enjoy a full day in the park

and to follow current COVID-19 guidelines Friday and Saturday.

Snyder City Manager Merle Taylor said they are encouraging individuals to practice social distancing and recommend that people wear a face mask when they are in large groups or are inside a building with others. They also encourage groups to limit themselves to 10 people when they gather at the park.

Saturday’s events at Towle Park will conclude with a fireworks display at dusk.
