The Scurry County Hospital District board of directors will discuss and vote on selling the property where Good Life Assisted Living and Memory Care is currently located during Wednesday’s meeting.
Good Life Assisted Living has been using the land at no cost since the hospital reached an agreement with the private company in December 2010. The facility opened in 2011.
During the Dec. 10, 2010 board meeting, directors approved an agreement that would allow residents of the Cogdell Memorial Hospital assisted living facility to move into the privately-owned facility.
At the time, Bennie Marricle, who was the board’s chairman, said the construction of an assisted-living facility met the requirements set by the Cavendar family when it donated the land to the hospital district.
The Cavendars requested in the agreement that a medical facility be constructed on the 50 acres within five years.
Thursday’s board packet does not include information about the terms of the sale, including the sale price, to Good Life Assisted Living.
Also during the meeting, the board is scheduled to vote to allow Chief Executive Officer Ella Raye Helms to continue to negotiate with U.S. Consults, LLC, on behalf of the board.
Last month, the board voted to allow Helms to execute an addendum to the contract with U.S. Consults pending the approval of documents from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts office.
In June, the board, on a split vote, approved a contract with the company, which is pursuing financial opportunities within the county. The company requires governing bodies to sign non-disclosure agreements before discussing how it secures additional sources of revenue for them.
While discussing the contract in June, Helms said the potential sources of revenue would be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Board members will also discuss and take action on accepting or closing the USDA loan application process for construction and equipment, as well as securing revenue bonds for the district.
During the medical staff report, credentials for Drs. Oscar Martinez, Ryan Morris and Teb Thames will be presented for reappointment and several policies and procedures will be presented for approval.
The November and December board meeting dates will also be discussed Thursday.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the administration wing boardroom, and is open to the public.
