The Ira ISD school board said goodbye to two teachers at its meeting Tuesday evening.

Coach and history teacher Grant Gooch and Spanish teacher Nancy Ballenger both submitted resignations to the school district since the board’s previous meeting.

“Grant has resigned and left us, and he’s gone to Throckmorton,” said Superintendent Brian Patterson.

Ballenger submitted a letter of resignation.

“On her letter here — she sent it in on the third — she said she really enjoyed working here, basically, and that there’s been some difficult decisions to make with the COVID and stuff,” Patterson said. “She just kind of felt like she needed to resign and do something different.”

Patterson reported one Spanish teacher had expressed interest in the position, but took another job. He said five coaches have expressed interest in the position vacated by Gooch.

In other business, the board approved the district’s Emergency Operations Plan.

“All we’re basically doing is, it goes over in case we have a tornado, a fire, we have to send in all of the fire exits, how the kids all leave an exit, how we move kids if there’s a tornado. We have to have maps of all of that. We have to have maps of where all the fire extinguishers are,” Patterson said. “First aid kits, where they’re at, how many we have. If we have an intruder, what kind of door locks we have to keep the intruders out.”

Patterson added that the report is about 60 pages long, and must be updated every three years.
