While Snyder was spared from the storm system that moved through West Texas on Thursday, enough rain fell to close the Snyder landfill on Saturday.

City officials announced the closure this morning.

Two Snyder stations for the Texas Tech University West Texas Mesonet website also recorded less than one inch of rain Thursday. The SnTx Industrial Park recorded 0.55 of an inch while Western Texas College recorded 0.38 of an inch.

Fluvanna, which also has a Mesonet recording station, had 0.33 inches of rain on Thursday. Gail recorded only 0.04 of an inch.

Throckmorton recorded the most rain among the Mesonet stations at 2.39 inches.

On Saturday, the weather service is forecasting between one-quarter and one-half inch of rain in Snyder as rain chances are listed at 50 to 60 percent. A 40 to 50 percent chance of rain is in Sunday’s forecast and skies are expected to clear on Monday.
