Snyder High School’s speech and debate team competed in Saturday’s University Interscholastic League (UIL) invitational meet hosted by Morton High School.
Anna Charlotte Lavers placed first in persuasive extemporaneous speaking. The team of Alanna Hurt and Lavers placed fifth in cross examination debate.
On Wednesday, the speech and debate team will host the district CX meet at the high school.
Representing Snyder will be the teams of Lavers and Hurt, Cedric Quiroz and Tristan Soliz and Michael Campos and Ethan Hernandez.
In addition to Snyder, Big Spring, Sweetwater and Levelland have also registered for the district meet.
According to speech teacher Shelby Randolph, the meet will begin at 9 a.m. Three preliminary rounds, a semifinal round and a final round will determine the top two teams. Those teams will advance to the UIL state contest in March.
