Editor’s Note: This is one in a series of articles spotlighting the eight agencies supported by the Scurry County United Way Lend a Hand campaign.

The Boy Scouts of America Buffalo Trail Council, which services scouts in Scurry County, is one of the recipients of Scurry County United Way funding.
The council funds its $2.2 million budget with camping and activity fees, donations and fundraisers.
The council receives 5 percent of its funds from United Way campaigns in the 18 counties it serves.
District Executive Zachary Mullins said funds from the Scurry County campaign benefit district programs. Snyder currently has 100 Scouts registered for the 2016-17 year.
“The funds go to sponsor our camps, our facility and all camping events at the district level,” Mullins said.
Buffalo Trail Council helps shape the lives of boys in first through eighth grade.
“We are the fastest growing council in the state of Texas for the last three years,” Mullins said. “United Way has been a great help. We are helping more kids become Scouts.”
Donations for the campaign may be dropped off at the Scurry County United Way office, mailed to P.O. Box 1411, Snyder, TX 79550 or made online at www.scurrycountyunitedway.org.
