Local businesses are reacting to the COVID-19 coronavirus by modifying their hours of operation and services offered.
Most notably, Snyder’s two largest grocery stores — Walmart Supercenter and United Supermarket — are still open, but have modified their hours to accommodate increased cleaning protocols.
For the time being, Walmart has gone to a 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily schedule. In addition, every Tuesday, seniors 60 and older will be allowed to shop an hour earlier than everyone else. They will be allowed access to the store at 6 a.m. Walmart’s automotive center will be closed temporarily so that store employees who work in the automotive center can assist with stocking and cleaning in the rest of the store.
The store will continue to limit purchases of some products, including paper products, milk, eggs, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, water, diapers, wipes, formula and baby food.
United Supermarket will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for seniors 60 and older only. The store will be open for everybody from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. According to its website, United will limit some high-demand items such as hand sanitizer and household cleaners. The store offers free online shopping and grocery pickup.
Snyder’s Bealls department store will reduce its hours. Until further notice, Bealls will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Although a press release issued by Stage Stores, Bealls’ parent company, indicated that some of the company’s stores would be closing for the duration of the pandemic, Snyder’s Bealls store was open Friday morning, with signs taped to the front door advertising the new hours.
Local banks and credit unions, including Prosperity Bank, Community Bank, West Texas State Bank, AimBank, First Bank and Trust and the Scurry County School Federal Credit Union will continue to operate with normal business hours during the crisis, at least for the time being.
Cinema Snyder is closed. A notice on the movie theater’s website reads “Temporarily closed. Stay safe and healthy. We will be back soon.”
The Snyder Lanes bowling alley is operating as per normal for now.
