The Christmas season in Snyder will kick into high gear Saturday, with a parade, play, and, of course, Santa Claus.
Saturday’s schedule kicks off with Pancakes with Santa at Snyder Primary School. The doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for children to eat pancakes, drink cocoa, play games, and make crafts with Santa, Mrs. Claus, Elsa and Olaf.
Pancakes with Santa runs through 11:30 a.m.
Santa Claus will also travel to the downtown plaza to visit with children at 3:30 p.m.
A Very Disney Christmas is the theme of this year’s Snyder Chamber of Commerce annual lighted Christmas parade.
Chamber events coordinator Josh Ortegon said nine floats had registered as of this morning, which is fewer than last year’s number of entries at the same time.
However, Ortegon said that people usually wait until the last minute to sign up.
The Chamber of Commerce will accept entries through Dec. 5.
Lineup for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the Snyder Shopping Center parking lot, with the parade beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will travel north on College Ave. from Snyder Shopping Center, circle around the courthouse square and conclude on the First Baptist Church parking lot.
The top three float entries will receive Chamber Bucks, Ortegon said, which are accepted by participating chamber members.
The community Christmas tree will be lit immediately after the parade in the downtown plaza, around 7:15 p.m.
The Ritz Community Theatre Tuesday Troupe will stage its second performance of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at 8 p.m.
The Scurry County Library’s Christmas program will be the folowing week on Tuesday night, Dec. 10, from 5:30 -7:30.
The library will take pictures of the children with Santa, and every family will receive a complimentary picture.
