A Snyder repair technician, and others, filed a federal lawsuit against a Boca Raton, Fla.-based company.
According to the Orlando Sun Sentinel, Donny Franks of Snyder, claims that HDRepair.com Services, LLC, owes former repairmen $1.4 million for unpaid work. Also named as defendants in the suit are owners Robert and Clarissa Roxberry and Louis Weltman.
A second suit, filed by television seller Vizio and AmTRAN, a Taiwan-based supplier of Vizio products, claims that HDRepair marketed pay-TV services to Vizio customers accessed from a confidential list that the company was given when it was contracted to repair televisions.
Franks’ suit was filed in the Palm Beach County Circuit Court and it stated he worked for HDRepair since 2008.
In an interview with the newspaper, Franks said the company owes $1.4 million to 175 technicians who used to accept work orders to fix Vizio televisions across the country. Some technicians are owed more than $100,000 and one is owed $250,000, Franks said.
His suit seeks class-action status on behalf of all technicians owed by HDRepair.
The defendants have not filed a response and the company ceased operations in the fall.
Weltman told the newspaper that he was brought on board as a “turnaround and restructuring consultant” and close to 300 technicians were owed money. He added that no technician was owed more than $60,000.
The newspaper reported that Weltman said technicians “share blame for the outstanding debt because they continued to work without getting paid.”
Franks said in early 2014, HDRepair began falling behind on paying technicians.
“First, they were two months back. Then it was three months,” Franks said. “Then it was six months. Sometimes they paid me half of what they owed and said, ‘We’ll give you the rest next time.’”
Franks told the newspaper technicians came together on an Internet forum site and discovered they were all owed money from the company.
