Hoping to drive voter turnout here and across Texas, Scurry County resident C.D. Gray Jr. has launched the Your Vote Counts campaign.
“Everyone who is eligible to vote needs to vote in the presidential election,” Gray said. “Hopefully, this will get more people out for early voting and on election day.”
Gray and his committee will be advertising in 253 Texas newspapers before early voting begins on Oct. 24 challenging each county that Scurry County will have the largest percentage of citizens voting on the first day and overall for the election.
“(County) Judge (Ricky) Fritz and Melody (Appleton, county clerk) have contacted their state organizations with our challenge and I’ve written Gov. (Greg) Abbott about our plans also,” Gray said.
“Here in Scurry County, we feel we need to encourage the American people to get out and vote, and make a difference,” Gray wrote the governor.
Early voting continues until Nov. 4 and Election Day is Nov. 8.
Gray said he has contacted businesses in Snyder to encourage them to allow employees to vote early on Oct. 24.
“Businesses have been very cooperative in planning to let their employees go vote early on the first day,” Gray said. “On the 24th, we’ll be serving hot dogs on the south side of the courthouse so we invite everyone to vote early and come have a hot dog with us.”
