Sales tax revenues collected in the City of Snyder and Scurry County continued their slide during August, according to the October sales tax allocation figures released by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar on Wednesday.
The city’s allocation was 49.04 percent less than the October 2014 total while the county saw a drop of 33.05 percent. The October totals represent monthly sales in August by businesses that report taxes on a monthly basis.
The city is scheduled to receive $241,368 this month, down from $473,673 in October 2014.
For the year, Snyder has received $2.969 million in allocations, a 17.52 percent decrease compared to the 10-month total of $3.6 million in 2014.
This month the county is scheduled to receive $165,058, down from the October 2014 total of $246,541.
Year-to-date, the county has received $1.57 million in allocations, a 29.67 percent decrease compared to the 2014 total of $2.24 million.
Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $616.2 million in local sales tax allocations for October, a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to October 2014.
Hegar also said that sales tax revenue for the state in September was $2.2 billion, up 1.9 percent compared to September 2014.
“The modest growth in state sales tax revenue, in line with the Biennial Revenue Estimate issued in January, continues the trend of recent months,” Hegar said. “Stronger growth in collections from the retail trade, restaurant, services and construction sectors offset declines from the oil and gas-related industries.”
