Firefighter Lt. David Eric Hill, 39, of Lubbock, formerly of Snyder, was killed Saturday morning while working the scene of an accident on Interstate 27.
Hill and his parents, Mark and Susan Hill, lived in Snyder from 1983-1993,  while Eric was in school, according to people who remembered the family. Eric attended Stanfield Elementary School and Snyder Junior High School. Mark Hill worked for Amoco Pipeline.
They attended 37th Street Church of Christ.
Lubbock police officer Nicholas Reyna was also killed, and firefighter/paramedic Matt Dawson was critically injured in the wreck.
According to police reports, first responders were summoned to the scene of the accident — a one-vehicle rollover — just after 8 a.m Sunday. While the responders were working the accident, a vehicle pulling a trailer also crashed nearby.
As the responders were working both crashes, a third vehicle crossed the median of the highway, striking Hill, Reyna and Dawson.
Reyna was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Hill and Dawson were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Hill died at the hospital, while Dawson remains in critical condition.
“Eric was a very good firefighter and paramedic,” said Lubbock Fire Rescue Division Chief Steve Holland. “He had been with the department about 10 years, had been promoted to lieutenant last July. He was a great employee. He did a bang-up job. Very diligent about his job and taking care of the citizens of Lubbock.”
Storms in Lubbock Friday night and Saturday resulted in snow and icy roadways in Lubbock over the weekend, conditions which may have contributed to the accidents.
