Scurry County dispatchers have received several calls recently from residents who have received phone calls from people claiming they are with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Snyder Chief of Police Terry Luecke said that to his knowledge, dispatchers received reports from time to time from residents who say they have received calls, typically from out-of-state numbers, informing them they are in danger of being sued by the IRS, and that they need to pay a set sum of money to help get rid of the problem.
Luecke said that to his knowledge, none of the local recipients of the calls have been victimized and actually made the payment.
“I’m not aware of anyone in town who has actually fallen victim to it,” Luecke said. “The key to recognizing it is the IRS doesn’t call people. That’s not how they operate.”
Luecke said that anyone with questions or concerns regarding what they think might be a scam should call the Snyder Police Department or the Scurry County Sheriff’s Office.
