Mr. and Miss SHS to be named Wednesday morning

Mr. and Miss SHS for 2019 will be named during the annual coronation ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at Snyder High School’s Worsham Auditorium.
The candidates for Miss SHS are Bergandi Alvarado, Cheyenne Avila, Nicole Martinez, Kellee Martini and Cylie Velasquez. The Mr. SHS candidates are Kobe Fahntrapp, Logan Greene, Drevian Hernandez, Nathan Kendrick and Jax Weaver.
Alvarado, the daughter of Blue and Brenda Alvarado, is a four-year member of the student council and currently serves as the senior class vice president. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, serving as historian one year, and in the top 10 percent of her class four years. She has also participated in speech/debate, powerlifting and one-act play.
Avila, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ismael Avila and Denise Fuentes, has participated in a capella choir, cheerleading, volleyball, softball and powerlifting. In powerlifting, she qualified for the regional meet three different times and earned outstanding lifter awards at meets in Colorado City and Coahoma. She won the 2018 state powerlifting title in her weight class and also has placed third and fifth at the state meet. Avila was also awarded the outstanding sports medicine award for her work as a student-trainer. 
Martinez, the daughter of Adan and Yolanda Martinez, is currently the senior class treasurer and member of the student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and choir. She has played volleyball for four years and was the team captain 2018. She is also a member of the basketball team and will play in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes all-star game this summer.
Martini, the daughter of Cindy and Troy Burton and Jason Martini, is a four-year member of the Future Farmers of America and advanced to state events in ag sales and ag communication. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is currently the chapter president. She is also a member of the cheerleading squad and participated in theater. She will graduate from Western Texas College in May with an associate’s of science degree.
Velasquez, the daughter of Angela and Bobby Velasquez, is the co-captain of the cheerleading squad this year and has played varsity golf each of the past four seasons. Velasquez has also competed in Future Farmers of America events, advancing to the area round one year.
Fahntrapp, the son of DeAnn and Beatrix Lopez, competed in powerlifting for three years and football for four years. He has qualified for the state powerlifting meet two times and earned all-district football honors this year. His teammates voted him the Grant Teaff Character Award winner in 2018. 
Greene, the son of Kari and Jason Greene, has been a three-year member of the varsity football, basketball and track teams. Greene is a member of the National Honor Society and is currently the vice president of the student council. He has been in the top 10 percent of his class each year in high school.
Hernandez, the son of Harvey and April Hernandez, has served as class president the past four years and has been a member of the student council, including president for three years. Hernandez has served as class president four years and he has been class favorite one year, nominated four years. 
Kendrick, the son of Kristen Kendrick and the late Scott Kendrick, is a four-year member of the football team and earned several all-district honors on offense and defense. He will play in the Myrle Greathouse All-Star Classic football game this summer. He is also a member of the basketball team, student council and National Honor Society.
Weaver, the son of Andy and Melody Weaver, has played golf the past four years and is also a member of the Future Farmers of America and National Honor Society. Weaver has been in the top 10 percent of his class each year in high school and has qualified for area and state Future Farmers of America events. He also qualified for the regional golf tournament with the team.
