Since City Hall closed to the public, heading to the municipal court offices to pay a traffic ticket or apply for an extension was difficult.

Court Administrator Gabby Scott said the department has implemented a new tool to help those with citations handle their responsibilities.

“We have had for several years the option to pay online, but just this morning I got everything set up and ready to go, and people now have the ability to request defensive driving, deferrals, extensions, they can enter a not guilty plea,” Scott said. “They can do it all online, they don’t have to mail anything in and they don’t have to appear at the window at City Hall. Well, nobody can, right now.”

Scott said that if you get a traffic ticket from a Snyder Police Officer, or have been instructed to appear for an outstanding city misdemeanor, the matter can be handled online.

“These options, I’ve been working on this for months, and this was the opportunity to get this rocking and rolling,” Scott said.

The court’s online system can be reached through the city’s website, www.ci.snyder.tx.us, she said.

“They go to our website, the city website, and then there’s several different ways,” Scott said.

“They can go to the Municipal Court tab and click ‘Online Services,’ or they can go to the payments, and click on ‘Municipal Court’ and look up their ticket. It will give them that option. They’ll go through the process, and it will ask them, ‘Do you want to do Defensive Driving?’ ‘Do you want to do a deferral?’ However you want to do that.”

Some options will require that users upload documentation, such as their driver’s license or proof of insurance. People can use a scanner or simply take a picture of the document with their cellphone.

“As long as we have that documentation and they’re able to upload that picture, as long as it’s legible, absolutely. We’re just trying to make it easier for everybody,” she said. “It will make it a lot easier for people who work outside of the hours of 8-5.”
