The Scurry County Museum will host a free concert featuring tenor Rodrigo Garciarroyo and pianist Richard Dowling at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The performance is part of the Piatigorsky Foundation’s concert series.
Garciarroyo has been continuously performing in Mexico’s most important theatres, has performed leading opera roles and sang dozens of concerts and operas at diverse venues and theatres in North America and Latin America.
In 2013, he was named one of the top leaders of opera in México by Líderes Mexicanos magazine.
His talent has been distinguished with the Olga Forrai Foundation and the Martina Arroyo Foundation scholarships to study in New York City and the Plácido Domingo voice scholarship given by Sociedad Internacional de Valores de Arte Mexicano.
In 2009, he made his debut at Lincoln Center in New York singing Verdi’s Requiem.
His repertoire includes opera, songs, romanzas, chamber and symphonic music.
Dowling appears regularly across the United States in solo recitals and concerts with orchestras.
Career highlights include a sold-out New York orchestral debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and a solo recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in New York.  Dowling has performed in the Far East, Australia, Africa and Europe.
Dowling is also a versatile recording artist with over a dozen CDs of classical, chamber, ragtime, jazz and popular music. This fall he will release a multi-CD set of the complete solo piano works of Scott Joplin, the renowned American ragtime composer. Dowling studied at Yale University and the University of Texas.
Last year, the Piatigorsky Foundation presented a tour of West Texas consisting of seven concerts that reached more than 1,060 people in Snyder, Fort Stockton, Alpine and Junction. This year, the Piatigorsky Foundation aims to reach hundreds of people across West Texas to increase awareness and appreciation of classical music.
