Hallelujah Highway, a free gospel concert, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Scurry County Museum.
The concert is being held in conjunction with the museum’s exhibit on Scurry County Art, which features examples of church architecture.
“We wanted the musical event to celebrate the exhibit’s church art and black history,” said Gale Northcott, museum educator. “I asked Mayor Tony Wofford to help with the lineup of performers.”
Featured singers include George Blueford, The Black Keys, Pastor Perry and Family, Billy Lawson, Harry Powell, Vanessa Carter and Shannon Harrison.
Among the selections will be Amazing Grace and What Prayer Can Do.
Northcott said she has mailed invitations to county churches.
“We are hoping for a good turnout,” she said.
Locally donated material, including unused church bulletins and paint sticks, have been used to make programs in the shape of old-fashioned fans. Refreshments will also be available.
