Several activities and camps are scheduled at the Scurry County Museum this summer.
Tours of the Texas Tech Lubbock Lake Landmark paleontology site at Roland Springs Ranch, which is in Scurry County, will be facilitated through the museum on June 11, June 18, June 25 and July 2.
Executive Director Daniel Schlegel Jr. said the museum staff is excited about the tours.
“It’s a chance of a lifetime to see this amazing and unique site,” Schlegel stated.
A crew member from the dig site will meet groups at the museum at 9:30 a.m. and caravan, in their own vehicles, to the dig site.
Schlegel said the tours are outdoors in uneven terrain and during hot weather. Tours may be cancelled in case of bad weather.
Tours are free, but Schlegel asked that anyone who plans to attend should contact the museum at 573-6107.
Also facilitated through the museum is a showing of the The Devils Backbone at the 1818 Arthouse on June 11. The film will begin at 7 p.m.
The Spanish film is about a 12-year-old boy whose father died in the Civil War and after arriving at a boys’ orphanage must uncover its dark haunting secrets. The movie is rated R. Admission is free.
Eight summer camps will be available this summer, beginning with Dino and Math-letes from June 20-24. Pioneer and art camps will be July 11-15 followed by the pet and art camps July 18-22. The Mad Science and Olympics camps are scheduled for Aug. 8-12.
The cost of each camp is $55 for museum members and $65 for non-members. Camps will be held in the morning and afternoon.
“These camps have been really popular and we can’t wait for this year’s camps and the school kids to enjoy them,” Schlegel said.
