Nearly 30 percent of state listed in a drought stage

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map of Texas shows 29.47 of the state in a drought stage, but Scurry County is not among the counties.
Hale, Lubbock, Martin, Midland and Upton counties are listed as abnormally dry this week. Only 5.91 percent of the state is listed in a moderate drought stage this week.
One week ago, 78 percent of the state was not in a drought and it fell to 70.53 percent this week. One year ago, 34.75 percent of the state was not in a drought.
Scurry County has received 22.62 inches of rain this year, including 1.07 inches this month.
A cold front moved through West Texas overnight, but it did not have any precipitation.
The National Weather Service’s seven-day forecast is not calling for rain in Snyder.
