Nolan County murder suspect identified; officer placed on leave

Law enforcement in Nolan County has released the name of the shooter involved in Saturday’s murder.
Lance Light, 54, was identified as the shooter, according to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The release also stated that a Sweetwater Police Department officer shot Light when he produced a gun and pointed it at officers at the intersection of Hwy. 70 and I-20. The officer, who has not been identified, is on paid administrative leave.
The DPS release did not provide an update on Light’s condition. Light, who was hospitalized was listed in critical condition on Monday.
The victim was identified as Lonnie Odell Sturdivant, 59, of Maryneal.
According to initial reports, Light fled the scene in a vehicle. A DPS trooper located the vehicle south of Sweetwater and a high-speed chase ensued. The pursuit ended at the intersection of I-20 and Hwy. 70.
Texas Rangers, the Sweetwater Police Department and Nolan County Sheriff’s Office are working together on the investigation.
