With the filing period for the May 6 City of Snyder and Snyder ISD elections entering the final week, only one contested race is on the ballot.

The race for Snyder mayor will be decided on May 6. Incumbent Tony Wofford is being challenged by George Jamison for the position.

Two people have filed to run for the at-large seats on the council. Ben Martin filed paperwork on Friday and will be on the ballot along with Frank Toland. Incumbents Rodney Dupree and Luann Burleson have not filed paperwork seeking re-election.

Filing for the city election is being held in the city secretary’s office at Snyder City Hall.

No contested races have developed for the three seats on the Snyder ISD board of trustees. Incumbents Ronnie Anderson (Place 1), Carrie Richardson (Place 4) and Doug Neff (Place 5) are seeking re-election.

Filing is being held at the school district’s administration office.

Early voting, which is scheduled for April 24 through May 2, and Election Day voting will be held at College on the Square.

Residents who would like to receive a ballot by mail may apply through for one through April 25.

Residents who plan to vote in the election must be registered by April 6. To register to vote or to change voting information, visit the Scurry County Clerk’s Office on the third floor of the Scurry County Courthouse.

Candidates may submit a free announcement to be published in the Snyder Daily News. Announcements will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday.

Candidates may submit an announcement of up to 200 words and a quality color photograph at the newspaper office.

The announcement should focus on the candidate’s qualifications and not their opponent.

The announcement should be prepared by the candidate or their campaign. The newspaper staff will not write announcements.

Also, the photograph submitted should be of the candidate only and not family members.

Announcements will run in the order they are received and the newspaper reserves the right to edit copy. No announcements will be published in the weekend edition.

The announcement should include an address, telephone number and email so the staff can follow up with questions.
