Candidates in the March 1 Republican and Democratic primaries will be offered one free announcement in the Snyder Daily News.
Information from candidates will be accepted beginning Nov. 15 and continue through 5 p.m. Dec. 14.
The filing period is scheduled to begin on Nov. 14 with each party’s county chairman. Drew Bullard is the Republican Party chairman and Merce Hernandez is the Democratic Party chairman.
Candidates may submit an announcement of up to 250 words and a quality color photograph at the newspaper office. The announcement should focus on the candidate’s qualifications and not their opponent.
The announcement should be prepared by the candidate or their campaign. The newspaper staff will not write announcements. Also, the photograph submitted should be of the candidate only and no family members.
Announcements will run in the order they are received and the newspaper reserves the right to edit copy. No announcements will be published in the weekend edition.
The announcement should include an address, telephone number and email so the staff can follow up with any questions. This information will not be published.
Seven local elected positions and two statewide seats with local connections will be decided in November 2016.
The local offices are the 132nd Judicial District judge and district attorney, county attorney, sheriff, county tax assessor/collector and the Pct. 1 and 3 Scurry County commissioners. Also to be decided will be the District 28 Texas Senate seat and the District 83 Texas House of Representatives seat.
The 18th Congressional District election will also be on the ballot.
Depending on the party, the March primary ballots may also include candidates for other statewide offices as well as United States President.
Early voting in the primaries is scheduled for Feb. 16-26.
