The driver of a pickup truck was transported to Cogdell Memorial Hospital after driving through a fence at Sonic Drive-In Thursday morning.
At 11:39 a.m. Thursday, a pickup truck swerved off of College Ave. and through the parking lot of Sonic, damaging an entrance sign and drive-up menu board before crashing through the wood fence and a brick pillar that divides Sonic and Rustic Star Liquor Store.
The vehicle stopped when it struck one of the poles that held up the canopy for the liquor store’s drive-through window. The canopy was later removed.
The nature of the accident is still under investigation.
James Bishop, a manager at Sonic, said he is not sure what the repairs will cost or how much insurance will cover. The store reopened earlier this month after being closed for a month and a half for renovations.
“They were still doing finishing touches after we opened,” Bishop said. “It all got finished probably last weekend. It’s just lucky and surprising that nobody else got seriously hurt.”
