Pianist Chelsea Wang and cellist Evan Drachman will perform a free concert on January 13 at the Scurry County Museum.
Cellist Evan Drachman is sought-after for his solo and chamber music performances, and as founder and Artistic Director of The Piatigorsky Foundation, he has become one of the most respected authorities on the presentation of live classical music for audiences everywhere.
In 1999, Drachman recorded his first CD, A Frog He Went a Courting, with pianist Richard Dowling.   Drachman has appeared regularly as soloist with orchestras and in recitals and chamber music performances across the United States and abroad.
Chelsea Wang has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in many venues across North America, Asia and Europe, including The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Merkin Hall in New York City. She is a prize winner and finalist of many national and international piano competitions, and has performed alongside eminent musicians including Ida Kavafian, Ani Kavafian, Steven Tenenbom and other inspirational mentors.  Wang has been a soloist with orchestras across the country, including Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Des Moines Symphony Orchestra.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Scurry County Friends of The Piatigorsky Foundation and the Scurry County Museum. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Drachman established The Piatigorsky Foundation in 1990 in honor of his grandfather Gregor Piatigorsky.  Piatigorsky believed in the healing and inspirational power of classical music.
The Piatigorsky Foundation is committed to carrying on Piatigorsky’s mission by evoking cultural curiosity through educational and accessible live performances.
Last year, the foundation presented a tour consisting of nine concerts in Snyder, Fort Stockton, Marfa and Junction. This year’s tour aims to increase awareness and appreciation of classical music in communities throughout the state
