Snyder head football coach and athletic director James Polk has been offered a job at another school district, but said today that he is still on the job in Snyder.
According to Snyder Superintendent Jim Kirkland, neither Polk or his wife, Brittenie, who is the high school principal, have given him letters of resignation.
“I never said I was leaving,” Polk wrote in a text message to the Snyder Daily News today. “That was said by other people.”
Polk posted on Facebook Sunday night that he had received an offer from another school, but did not name the school. He said in his post, which has since been deleted, that he wanted to clear up things because of what others posted on social media and said in “ballpark talk.”
“I respectfully want to apologize to my staff, athletes and friends for hearing news through the gossip circles I wanted to wait and give you the respect deserved and talk face to face like respect is supposed to be given. Unfortunately because of a few that got this snow ball started, I will not get that honor to respect you, which is owed. I have not resigned. I have been offered a job and have been given a deadline to respond.
“Officially if I do resign it will not be until later this week. To all my athletes, staff and friends, I apologize for everything you have heard you deserve to find out things from my mouth no one else. Please understand my possible resignation has nothing to do with the city of Snyder or athletes. We have extended family in Snyder and just bought a really nice house. I’m on the Little Dribblers board and coaching all-stars and get to workout with a great small groups of goal-oriented clients.
“My coaching staff believes in a total program not just football like myself and my daughters only know Snyder and have cried all week at the possibility. If you want to talk more feel free to call I will be honest and upfront.”
Polk wrote in the post that he would be out-of-town on Monday for “personal reasons.”
Polk became assistant head coach in 2012 under Aubrey Sims. Polk was promoted to head coach after Sims left in March 2014 to become head coach and athletic director at Iowa Park.
The Tigers were 2-8 during Polk’s first season as head coach and finished 5-6 last season with a loss to Mineral Wells in the Class 4A Division I bi-district round of the playoffs.
