Scurry County taxing entities should see an increase in tax valuations if preliminary figures hold to form.
During today’s Appraisal Review Board (ARB) meeting, Scurry County Chief Appraiser Jackie Martin released preliminary valuations for the county’s taxing entities and a jump in mineral valuations have led to an overall increase on the estimated tax rolls. The City of Snyder is the only taxing entity to see a preliminary decline in its tax rolls.
Martin stressed that the numbers released today were preliminary and will likely decrease before certified values are released in July. Even so, she anticipates that the county’s taxing entities will see their tax rolls increase compared to 2018.
“Mineral values are the major driver of these increases, although we saw a decline in other categories,” Martin said. “I believe that the taxing units will see an increase over last year, although I don’t think it’ll be a substantial increase.”
Preliminary 2019 tax valuations for Scurry County taxing entities and their certified 2018 valuations are:
• Scurry County: $3.127 billion, compared to $2.511 billion in 2018.
• City of Snyder: $542.14 million, compared to $550.4 million in 2018.
• Scurry County Hospital District: $3.12 billion, compared to $2.51 billion in 2018.
• Western Texas College: $3.17 billion, compared to $2.56 billion in 2018.
• Snyder ISD: $2.99 billion, compared to $2.17 billion in 2018.
• Ira ISD: $152.7 million, compared to $131.9 million in 2018.
• Hermleigh ISD: $305.3 million, compared to $170.1 million in 2018.
• Roscoe ISD: $12.4 million, compared to $11 million in 2018.
• Colorado City ISD: $90.8 million, compared to $70.9 million in 2018.
Martin said the preliminary valuations do not reflect further adjustments to made in the coming weeks, including results of ARB hearings scheduled for July 11-12.
In other business today, ARB Chairman Eddie Williams, Vice Chairman Mike Huddleston and Secretary David Strunk were sworn into office.
A scheduled closed session to consider pending or contemplated litigation with the appraisal district’s attorney was postponed until June.
