In less than six weeks, the sound of shuffling feet and chattering voices will fill the hallways as students return to school for the start of a new year.

Snyder Primary School is gearing up for the new year with goals, leadership and intention in mind.

“We’re a ‘Leader In Me’ campus, so we follow (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People),” Principal Canita Rhodes said.

The habits use a goal-setting platform to provide students with the skills needed to succeed both in school and in life all while forming them into effective leaders.

“The second habit is ‘begin with the end in mind’, and that is goal-setting,” Rhodes said. “As a campus we set goals, our teachers set goals, and we teach our students to set goals so they have something to strive for.”

Alongside goal-setting, another key to student success in school is the parent-teacher relationship. In preparation for a new year, the school is offering an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher.

“Our goal is to have every parent meet their student’s teacher before school starts,” Rhodes said. “It’s important for parents to have that contact with their student’s teacher.”

Instead of having a meet-the-teacher event, the school is offering smaller, more personal meetings at the parents’ convenience.

“The teacher will contact them a few weeks before school starts and set up a time that’s convenient for them,” Rhodes said. “They will be able to meet with the teacher either individually or in a small group where it’s one-on-one.”

Before teachers are able to contact parents, student information on the Skyward Family Access page must be completed and up-to-date.

“It’s important to have their info correct so the teachers can contact them,” Rhodes said. “They need to have it done as soon as possible.”

The online forms will take the place of paperwork typically sent home the first week of school.

It will be used to document information, such as emergency contacts, field trip permission and other essential student information.

For parents who need help with the online forms, they can use the computers at the school or call the school at 574-8600.
